Saying Yes to the Scary Stuff: The Story Behind Hire Ground Podcast
This summer, as I was thinking through how to tell our Edgility Search story with Jonathan Schorr, Amirah Raveneau-Bey and Hadley Kornacki, the team was encouraging me to record short-form videos of my own reflections and conversations with friends and colleagues and share them with our networks. I was more than a little intimidated and nervous but I figured that I've benefited a lot over the years by trying things that initially scared me, so I'd give it a go.
One of the first friends I reached out to was Josh Czupryk who was super enthusiastic and in fact, he pushed me to consider that we should not just do one conversation but host an ongoing podcast. Before I knew it, we had a name (Hire Ground Podcast), a logo, an account that pushed our episodes out on dozens of platforms and even a website and LinkedIn page. Each time we record, we get more confident, more relaxed, and figure out another trick to make it a little better. More than anything, we are having so much fun together and with our guests, putting into public view the same conversations we have all the time behind the scenes.
This experience reminds me that almost 30 years into my professional career and more than 20 years into my life as a recruiter, it is always worth taking that extra professional risk to try something new. As we evolve and update our practices, we can help the people and orgs we serve improve their practices too.
What is a professional risk you've taken lately that paid off? What did you learn from it?
